656th Radar Squadron, Saratoga
Springs, NY
Dedicated to the preservation of the
656th Radar Squadron memories
by the veterans of
the Saratoga Air Force Station.
Old Radar men never die - Their echos
fade away in accordance with the inverse fourth power law.
Dave Fiedler sent this video to me, I, thru Dave,
sought permission to put the video on our site:
Hello Doc,
Glad you enjoyed the video of the 646th
AC&WRON. John Schneider of
Keyport, NJ, a local
videographer, did all the heavy
lifting on the video. (Camera, Lights,
Narration, Production, Direction, Editing.) He said I could
distribute it at will. I'm sure he will be pleased to hear of its
distribution to my fellow Radar Station
Vets. Our sites were in the same division. (26th Division.)
NY Air Defense Sector. As I recall
your call sign was "Egg Nog," up in
Saratoga Springs, NY. I was at the
646th on the North Jersey coast at the foot of Sandy Hook
overlooking lower NY Bay and 10 miles from Manhattan. We were "Dora."
I did put the link up on the RSV website,
(RSV Digest Number 6611,) but got no feedback from anyone. The
other person in the video is retired Lt.
Col. Steve
Riethof. He was a Senior Director at
"Powder," the 773rd AC&W on Montauk
Point, Long Island. Steve, a great
guy, was a "Back Seat Guy" in a F-94 squadron who spent over 3 years
at the 773rd.
I'm very happy to share the video with you
and your guys. It's yours and their story too!
John
