What is the Air Force Radar Museum Association, Inc.?

The Air Force Radar Museum Association (AFRMA) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Ohio-based corporation (Tax ID available upon request). The AFRMA has but one project, that of the
establishment, development and support of the National Air Defense Radar Museum (NADRM). We are undertaking this effort because as former U.S. Air Force radar technicians, operators and support personnel, the principals believe that this story of the air defense of North America needs to be told while those of us with first-hand experience, all aging rapidly, are still around to tell it. We have found no other such museum in the United States.

We have a long-term (25 year) lease on the former AN/FPS-26 radar tower at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, the former 664th AC&W/Radar Squadron in Bellefontaine, Ohio with the option of an additional 25 years. We are currently in our capital fund raising campaign, which seeks major donations from corporations and individuals who can make these kinds of donations. Our day-to-day business is financed through membership dues, small donations and the sale of a book, The Peacekeepers, by Jack Miller along with other relatively small fund raising opportunities.

The museum will be much more than a museum of dusty electronic cabinets. We intend to document the entire mission of air defense from the very beginning and recognition of the need for defense from aerial attack, the whys and hows, and to have many interactive displays. All components of the air defense mission will be represented and displayed. The museum will be mostly educational in nature, as we attempt to explain our mission and why it was necessary. We intend to follow a timeline that extends from the first World War and the first need for defense from aerial attack, through the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

The AFRMA is an all-volunteer effort, with no paid employees.
